The Seasons of Her Heart

‘Tis Spring

First bloom

Her petals spring forth.

Eager for the light, nourishment and warmth

Found in his words,

His arms,

His smile.

Summer comes now;

The heat radiates.

Her flower at its peak

She drinks endlessly from his fountain;

Drowning in his sustenance

Blissful gluttony.

Now Autumn;

A brisk chill sets in.

Her petals begin to crumble.

The once-plentiful fountain

Dry, cold

The sun sets earlier still;

Darkness falls.

‘Tis Winter now;

Her roots burrow deep into the earth.

Seeking nourishment

Through the cold.

Where is her mate

His hand to hold?

Discontent: Her slow death begins
